Ingredients
- 1 lb Cleaned Squid tubes and tentacles
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornmeal
- 1 tspn paprika
- 1 tspn garlic powder
- 1/2 tspn salt
- 1/4 tspn black pepper
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Lemon wedges for serving
Notes
Instructions:
- Rinse the squid under cold water and pat it dry with paper towels. Cut the tubes into 1/2-inch rings and leave the tentacles whole.
- In a shallow dish, combine the flour, cornmeal, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F.
- Working in batches, dredge the squid rings and tentacles in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess, and then carefully drop them into the hot oil. Fry for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried calamari to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve the fried calamari immediately with lemon wedges on the side for squeezing over the top.
