Ingredients

  • 1 lb Cleaned Squid tubes and tentacles
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1 tspn paprika
  • 1 tspn garlic powder
  • 1/2 tspn salt
  • 1/4 tspn black pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Lemon wedges for serving

Notes

Instructions:
  1. Rinse the squid under cold water and pat it dry with paper towels. Cut the tubes into 1/2-inch rings and leave the tentacles whole.
  2. In a shallow dish, combine the flour, cornmeal, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F.
  4. Working in batches, dredge the squid rings and tentacles in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess, and then carefully drop them into the hot oil. Fry for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried calamari to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  6. Serve the fried calamari immediately with lemon wedges on the side for squeezing over the top.
Enjoy your delicious and crispy fried calamari!
